Wellness exams – included routine and annual vaccinations
for Encephalitis, Tetanus, Rabies, Potomac Horse Fever, Strangles,
Influenza, West Nile Virus, EPM and Rhinopneumonitis.
Offered are Coggins testing, weight and dental exams, tooth
floating, worming program design.
Sickness exams – we offer a complete array
of laboratory analysis to help determine your animals illness. We
also are equipped to provide on site intravenous fluid therapy to
dehydrated animals. We are well versed with colic. We treat medical
colic's on site and have the capability to give intravenous fluid
therapy. We have treated Lyme disease, Ehlichia equi, Cushing’s
disease. We are well versed with Equine Motor Neuron Disease and
Equine Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy.
Pre-purchase examinations – extensive physical exam and
lameness evaluation performed prior to purchase of the horse to
provide you with the protection of buying into a pre-existing
problem. Often includes laboratory analysis, radiographs,
endoscopy, and ultrasonography.
Lameness exams – evaluations include flexion tests, nerve
and joint blocks, radiography, and ultrasonography.
Reproductive procedures - breeding soundness exams supported
by ultrasonography, rectal examination. We offer artificial
insemination using shipped cooled semen. We offer uterine flushing
as a routine procedure, uterine biopsy, culture and cytology
evaluation.
Surgery – standing surgery of the horse is performed for
castration, biopsy, laceration repair. We also offer on site
cryosurgery (deep freezing of tissues using liquid Nitrogen). It is
ideal for sarcoid tumor removal.
Specialized Procedures:
Ultrasonography – uses sound waves to evaluate soft tissues
like tendons and ligaments, reproductive organs, lumps, tumors. It
is painless and non-invasive.
Radiography – uses x-rays to visualize bone for
abnormalities including arthritic changes and fractures. We
have portable machines capable of imaging heads, stifles, limbs and
necks.
Endoscopy – a fiber optic device for evaluating the airway
of the horse, including the larynx, sinus passages, guttural
pouches and upper esophagus. Useful in pre-purchase exams,
pneumonias or reactive airway diseases.
Cryosurgery – device used to freeze tissues using liquid
Nitrogen. Offers a way to remove tumors that would be otherwise
difficult to excise or where it is contraindicated to excise them
like sarcoids
Equine Gastroscope - Allows the Dr. to see into the
horses stomach and accurately diagnose a gastric ulcers.
Signs of ulcers include frequent colic, poor weight gain, variable
appetite, diarrhea.
